In her latest look, the JLo Beauty founder captured attention in a skintight beige bodycon dress from It-girl-adored label Magda Butrym. Opting for muted tones from head to toe (surprising for JLo yet unsurprising in the quiet luxury landscape), she paired her dress with transparent pointed-toe pumps, a nude manicure and her ultra elegant sleek bronde locks.

She finished off her look with a dazzling diamond ring from jewellery label Effy – the brand founded by the late designer Emmy Hematian in 1979. The dazzling ‘Bouquet 14K White Gold Diamond Ring’ is adorned with round diamonds, making a statement from every angle.

Though we know JLo is already married to her former Y2K sweetheart Ben Affleck, her Effy piece is actually the perfect engagement ring.

Forking out £2,512 on a ring isn’t exactly cheap, but it’s much more affordable than plenty of diamond-clad engagement rings on the market. JLo’s own engagement ring from Ben is worth between $5m and $10m dollars according to Stylecaster: “JLo’s new engagement ring is 8.5 carats with a natural green diamond center stone. The ring is estimated to cost between $5 million to $10 million. The diamond was sourced by Ilan Portugali of Beverly Hills Diamonds. ‘Congratulations Ben & @jlo on your engagement’”.

How Much Should I Spend on an Engagement Ring?

Before your head goes spinning from the sheer number of engagement ring designs, diamond retailers, and digits of price tags, let’s take a moment to remember why you’re here. Understanding how much to spend on engagement rings isn’t something we’d expect you to subconsciously know. But this piece of jewelry doesn’t have to put you into debt to make you and your partner happy. In fact, several factors go into purchasing a ring, from creating a spreadsheet budget to enlisting the help of the “four Cs.” Here are five pieces of advice for keeping your head on your shoulders while searching for that perfect engagement ring.

1. Understanding the Average Cost of an Engagement Ring

If you have absolutely no idea where to start on how much to spend on an engagement ring, it’s not a bad idea to look at the average amount people spend. The rule of thumb people typically followed was the two-month salary guideline—which was created during the Great Depression, when diamond sales weren’t doing too well and De Beers, a leading diamond company, sought to improve the situation. The marketing campaign cast diamonds as the ultimate symbol of love and encouraged buyers to put aside one month’s pay (which the company later boosted to three), to purchase a diamond engagement ring

In the present day, this means a salary in the low six figures could translate into options that are at least $25,000 and up. But this rule is outdated for several reasons. While engagement rings are a pricy investment, the usual cost tends to be below $10,000, with a national average of $6,000, according to The Knot’s 2022 Jewelry and Engagement Study. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t other factors to take into consideration for your wedding ring, like the types of

Officers in Pittsburgh were hot on the trail of a runaway, but they had to improvise in order to save the day.

The caper was an engagement ring that decided to make a break for it through the sewers, but Sergeant Andrew Robinson and Officer Kyle Briggs were not about to be sidestepped so easily.

Out on patrol, the two heard a woman saying she had lost her ring down a sewer as they walked down 16th Street. They decided to stop and help the young woman.

The officers fabricated a device that consisted of a metal pole—found on the street—masking tape and a paperclip attached to the end.

A video, released by the police, shows one of the officers slowly pulling the metal pole and the ring attached to it out of the drain.

“The officers overheard a woman and her fiance’ saying she had lost her ring down a sewer that had a tiny hole in the middle,” said the Pittsburgh Police Bureau in a statement.

“The sergeant who was there said it was a “one in a million shot” that it came off her finger and went into the hole.”

“We don’t know the person’s name. She and her fiance’ were very thankful, jokingly invited them to the wedding, and then drove off in a vehicle with out-of-state plates.”

All in a day’s work for Pittsburgh’s finest.

Jada Pinkett Smith Bought Engagement Ring After Will Smith Proposed

  • Jada Pinkett Smith said that she bought her own engagement ring after Will Smith proposed.
  • Pinkett Smith said that the action gave her some control and was intended to prepare her for marriage.
  • “The ring was a statement that said to my fear: Get used to this now,” she said.

Jada Pinkett Smith said that she bought her own engagement ring after Will Smith proposed to her so she could retain some control and prepare herself for marriage.

“I went to Harry Winston in Beverly Hills and bought my ring, a nice-sized pear-shaped diamond set in a platinum band,” Pinkett Smith wrote in her new memoir, “Worthy,” released on Tuesday. “By buying my own ring, I took some measure of control and sent the message to myself: All right, get with the program.”

“A decade later, Will would completely outdo himself and buy me a 10-carat Graff diamond ring,” she continued. “But in this moment, I had to move quickly to make it all real and concrete for my psyche. The ring was a statement that said to my fear: Get used to this now.”

In “Worthy,” Pinkett Smith detailed her childhood, Hollywood stardom, and relationship with Smith. The pair wed in 1997 and have two children together, son Jaden Smith and daughter Willow Smith, but Pinkett Smith never wanted to be married.

“My trepidation had nothing to do with Will — it had everything to do with my long-held belief that marriage wasn’t for me,” Pinkett Smith wrote, adding that at the time, her mom Adrienne Banfield had two failed marriages.

The Ultimate Guide to Engagement Ring Settings

The history of the engagement ring is long and storied, with mythology crediting both the Egyptians and the Greeks, and reaching as far back as ancient Rome. Whether you fancy a single solitaire prong setting, popularized by Tiffany’s in the late 1800s, or a chunky gold band embellished with jewels, the engagement ring setting says just as much about a couple’s personal style as does the stone shapes themselves.

We sat down with some of the most interesting jewelers in the business to chat about what’s buzzy, what’s lasting, and what their personal favorites are. Below, Vogue’s ultimate guide to engagement ring settings.

Bezel Setting

“Bezel settings and half bezel settings are definitely the new solitaire,” declares Olivia Landau, fourth-generation jeweler and co-founder of the buzzy diamond engagement ring startup The Clear Cut. “Bezel settings offer a modern twist to a classic solitaire, and chunky gold settings are becoming very popular. People are looking to create unique engagement rings that highlight their personal style.”

No one knows this better than Brent Neale, founder of the eponymous jewelry company that offers both ready-made and made-to-order options for the cool-girl and fashion set. Beloved for her unique takes on setting interesting stones, Neale recently reset tastemaker Julia Berolzheimer’s engagement ring, which was widely shared on social media.

“Julia was a delight to work for, and she’s the perfect example of what people often seek us out for,” says Neale. “Resetting because perhaps the original setting just isn’t you anymore. The smoothness of the gold and the low set style of setting the stones [in Julia’s bezel-set ring] make them extremely comfortable. There is an easiness about them—which is how clients often describe [our pieces.]”

Zooey Deschanel’s Fabulous Floral Engagement Ring Cost $40K

The sighting: Actress Zooey Deschanel, best known for being hilarious and adorable on beloved 2010’s sitcom New Girl, is engaged to her Property Brother beau!

The jewels: Zooey Deschanel’s brand is all things twee and fun, and her non-traditional engagement ring fits perfectly with her public persona (even if the literal fit of the ring does appear to be too big for the actress’s finger).

I originally assumed that this pretty floral piece must be a custom design, but it’s not. Instagrammer @Wwwjewels and her audience of super sleuths managed to track down the exact style on Van Cleef & Arpels’ website.

Zooey Deschanel’s engagement ring is from Van Cleef & Arpels’ Folie des Prés collection. The floral band is 18K white gold with pink and mauve sapphires and diamonds. It is currently available on Van Cleef’s website for $42,900.

Articles from a few weeks ago cite the price as $41,700, so perhaps there has been some celebrity-related inflation since then.

The trends: The only trend here is for unique engagement rings that reflect the couples’ personality I am extremely here for it.

What do we think? I love a unique engagement ring and this one feels so right for its wearer that I am delighted by it in every way.

I think that if New Girl’s Jess was a real person who existed separately from Zooey Deschanel, she would love this ring too and that makes me even happier.

Now, Zooey, please go get that gorgeous ring sized before it falls off of your finger.

Judgement: 17/10 for a celebrity I like with a ring I love!
