Shiffrin and Kilde have been together for just over three years after first meeting one another at a ski camp. Shiffrin is arguably the greatest ski race competitor of all-time, winning two Olympic gold medals and owning the most World Cup wins of any male or female in the sport.

She had been sidelined for several weeks due to a knee injury that she sustained in a downhill crash in Cortina, Italy.

Kilde is also an Olympic medalist, taking home one bronze and one silver medal in 2022. However, he’s currently recovering from a crash that required emergency surgery. He tore ligaments, dislocated his shoulder, and also suffered a gash in his calf.

While the two have dealt with injuries throughout their respective 2024 campaigns, their relationship off the slopes seems to be as strong as ever.

Why Kate Middleton Isn’t Wearing Her Wedding and Engagement Rings in Photo

After this story was published, multiple photo agencies recalled the above image citing an “editorial issue” and “post-publication review” as reasons. The Associated Press issued the most detailed description, saying that “at closer inspection, it appears that the source has manipulated the image. No replacement will be sent.”

Kate Middleton later issued a personal apology for editing the Mother’s Day photograph. “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day,” the message read. It was signed “C” for Catherine, indicating that it was a personal message from the Princess.

The picture, which was taken by Prince William earlier this month, shows Kate surrounded by her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. It was accompanied by a brief note thanking the public for their support as she recovers.

“Thank you for your kind wishes and continued support over the last two months. Wishing everyone a Happy Mother’s Day,” wrote the Princess. She signed the note with her initial, “C”.

In keeping with Kensington Palace’s original stance that they will not be providing health updates unless something significant changes, the message did not offer any additional details on Kate’s recovery or when she may make her next public appearance. Previously the Palace said, “Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.”

I say if he can’t revive the engagement with an old ring

DEAR MISS MANNERS: A friend of mine was engaged for months. Then she and her fiance had a misunderstanding and he asked for the ring back. She returned it.

He has since found the error of his ways and gave her the ring again.

I say she needs a new ring, or at least an altered one — have that one remounted or somehow changed. After all, he wouldn’t use a ring he had first given to someone else. I say when he asked for it back, it terminated the contract of marriage, and therefore this is a new engagement and needs a new ring.

Who is right?

GENTLE READER: Are you planning to be part of this marriage? Or are you only the couple’s jeweler?

Perhaps the couple sees that ring as symbolizing the welcome return of the harmony of their early engagement. Or as a rock that remains solid despite any troubles.

In any case, Miss Manners does not consider pressing your unpleasant theory of The Tainted Ring to be an act of friendship.

DEAR MISS MANNERS: I’m pregnant and want to have a party celebrating this new stage in life.

I do not want any gifts. I do not want the burden of hosting to fall on another person. I definitely do not want to do a gimmicky “gender reveal.” I just want to host a party celebrating this moment.

What on earth do I call this party? It’s not a shower; it’s not a gender reveal. What is a name for this party that conveys the purpose without being clunky?

GENTLE READER: Why do people believe that parties have to have names? Probably because the name suggests that presents are due.

But that is not your intention, and there is no

How much to spend on an engagement ring

The decision on how much to spend on an engagement ring is a personal choice — despite the outdated “rules” that may suggest otherwise. While costs can vary, the average engagement-ring-cost-in-the-us-and-around-the-world/” data-ylk=”slk:engagement ring in Canada;cpos:2;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0″ class=”link “engagement ring in Canada is around $5,500, while in the United States the average cost in 2023 was $6,000, according The Knot.

That said, you should decide on a budget that fits within your income and lifestyle before you set out to purchase an engagement ring.

Consider your engagement ring’s centre stone

There’s no denying the appeal of a diamond ring to mark an engagement, since the precious stone symbolizes commitment, faithfulness and love.

Stones like Moissanite are gaining in popularity as alternatives to traditional mined diamonds, diamonds remain the most popular stone of choice with with 85% of ring shoppers choosing them as their centre gem.

How to Wear Your Wedding and Engagement Ring With Style

One key question recurs regarding matrimonial bling: how to wear both your wedding and engagement ring? Which goes on first: the engagement ring or the wedding band? Do you wear both on the same finger? Do you have to wear both?

It’s entirely your call. Wedding traditions have their place, but as with all things nuptial these days, how and when you choose to partake is a matter of personal preference. According to Zola’s 2024 First Look Report, 83% of couples are challenging the normative expectations tied to the wedding day, from toxic diet culture to the expectation that brides will change their last name. Ring etiquette, too, is due for review.

Below, find all the wedding jewelry guidance you need to wear your ring set, including insights into tradition; after all, you need to learn the rules before you break them—in style.

What is the history behind the ring finger?

According to ancient Roman lore, the fourth finger on the left hand harbored a special vein, Vena Amoris, or the “vein of love,” believed to connect straight to the heart. Placing your eternity band on this “ring” finger was seen as a symbolic union of two hearts.

Modern science has debunked this theory (we now know there’s a vein in every finger leading to the heart), yet the sentiment lives on, keeping alive the romantic meaning of the ring finger. Western countries (like the U.S., U.K., Canada, France, etc.), and many Asian nations, adhere to the left ring finger tradition. But in other regions, including many Eastern European, SWANA (Southwest Asia and North Africa), and Latin American countries, the right ring finger is favored. Some LGBTQ+ couples have also opted for the right hand as a subtle rebellion against Western heterosexual norms.

So, how should I

3 things to avoid when choosing an engagement ring, according to jewelers

  • Even in the fine jewelry world, trends come and go.

  • Business Insider spoke to jewelers about which engagement ring trends to avoid.

  • They said it’s important to prioritize your personal style over trends.

When it comes to fashion and beauty trends, they fade as fast as they go viral.

In the case of an engagement ring, it should last the test of time.

Business Insider previously covered the engagement ring trends of 2024;elm:context_link;itc:0″ class=”link “top engagement ring trends of 2024, and two jewelers have also weighed in on trends to avoid.

They said trending styles are pointless if they don’t fit with your lifestyle or personal aesthetic. After all, your engagement ring might be the most personal fashion accessory you ever carry.

Stacking rings are expensive, and aren’t future-proof if they need to be sold or redesigned

Beanie Major, a jewelry consultant and founder of engagement ring consultancy service In Detail, told BI that a popular trend in the last five years was multiple rings worn in place of one large engagement ring.

“It was very small stones that weren’t necessarily of huge value, but collectively, the rings would be quite expensive,” Major added.

She told BI redesigning engagement rings is also becoming a popular trend. The reason for this surge in popularity is that people are getting braver and bolder with their choices.

Major said people who are likely to do this in the future should consider one large stone over multiple small stones. This will hold its value better, and give jewelry designers more to work with.

Don’t prioritize trends over your personal style

Both jewelers agreed buyers should be aware of the trends, but this shouldn’t

Lisa Hochstein Reveals Why She Kept Her Engagement Ring

When Season 5 of The Real Housewives of Miami ended, Lisa Hochstein’s marriage had fallen apart with her husband of nearly 13 years, Dr. Lenny Hochstein. It was a hard time for Lisa, especially as Lenny moved on quickly to another engagement with someone else. But that doesn’t mean Lisa is wallowing.

How to Watch

Watch The Real Housewives of Miami on Bravo Wednesdays at 9/8c and next day on Peacock. Catch up on the Bravo App.

Instead, as seen in the RHOM Season 6 premiere episode, Lisa is learning to love again, and she seems eager to put the past behind her — except for one thing: her engagement ring.

Why Lisa Hochstein Kept Her Engagement Ring

Lisa has officially moved on, and is now dating fellow Canadian Jody Glidden, a Harvard graduate and successful tech entrepreneur who understands firsthand the difficulties of divorcing and being a single dad. As seen in Season 6, Episode 1, the two are a loving couple, and Larsa is over the moon about her new relationship. However, she is holding onto one relic from her marriage.

During an afternoon yacht excursion in the Miami harbor with Larsa Pippen and her new beau, Marcus Jordan (who you may know better as Michael Jordan’s son), Lisa opened up about why she still wears her engagement ring.

“[Jody] doesn’t like me wearing it, but I resized it for my middle finger, so I could be like that!” as she demonstrated giving “the finger” to an imaginary Lenny.

It’s not just about the joke potential, though.

How Much Should I Spend on an Engagement Ring?

Before your head goes spinning from the sheer number of engagement ring designs, diamond retailers, and digits of price tags, let’s take a moment to remember why you’re here. Understanding how much to spend on engagement rings isn’t something we’d expect you to subconsciously know. But this piece of jewelry doesn’t have to put you into debt to make you and your partner happy. In fact, several factors go into purchasing a ring, from creating a spreadsheet budget to enlisting the help of the “four Cs.” Here are five pieces of advice for keeping your head on your shoulders while searching for that perfect engagement ring.

1. Understanding the Average Cost of an Engagement Ring

If you have absolutely no idea where to start on how much to spend on an engagement ring, it’s not a bad idea to look at the average amount people spend. The rule of thumb people typically followed was the two-month salary guideline—which was created during the Great Depression, when diamond sales weren’t doing too well and De Beers, a leading diamond company, sought to improve the situation. The marketing campaign cast diamonds as the ultimate symbol of love and encouraged buyers to put aside one month’s pay (which the company later boosted to three), to purchase a diamond engagement ring

In the present day, this means a salary in the low six figures could translate into options that are at least $25,000 and up. But this rule is outdated for several reasons. While engagement rings are a pricy investment, the usual cost tends to be below $10,000, with a national average of $6,000, according to The Knot’s 2022 Jewelry and Engagement Study. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t other factors to take into consideration for your wedding ring, like the types of

The Ultimate Guide to Engagement Ring Settings

The history of the engagement ring is long and storied, with mythology crediting both the Egyptians and the Greeks, and reaching as far back as ancient Rome. Whether you fancy a single solitaire prong setting, popularized by Tiffany’s in the late 1800s, or a chunky gold band embellished with jewels, the engagement ring setting says just as much about a couple’s personal style as does the stone shapes themselves.

We sat down with some of the most interesting jewelers in the business to chat about what’s buzzy, what’s lasting, and what their personal favorites are. Below, Vogue’s ultimate guide to engagement ring settings.

Bezel Setting

“Bezel settings and half bezel settings are definitely the new solitaire,” declares Olivia Landau, fourth-generation jeweler and co-founder of the buzzy diamond engagement ring startup The Clear Cut. “Bezel settings offer a modern twist to a classic solitaire, and chunky gold settings are becoming very popular. People are looking to create unique engagement rings that highlight their personal style.”

No one knows this better than Brent Neale, founder of the eponymous jewelry company that offers both ready-made and made-to-order options for the cool-girl and fashion set. Beloved for her unique takes on setting interesting stones, Neale recently reset tastemaker Julia Berolzheimer’s engagement ring, which was widely shared on social media.

“Julia was a delight to work for, and she’s the perfect example of what people often seek us out for,” says Neale. “Resetting because perhaps the original setting just isn’t you anymore. The smoothness of the gold and the low set style of setting the stones [in Julia’s bezel-set ring] make them extremely comfortable. There is an easiness about them—which is how clients often describe [our pieces.]”
