Princess Kate Middleton is fueling speculation about her marriage to Prince William after she did not wear either her wedding or engagement ring in a new photo.

“Thank you for your kind wishes and continued support over the last two months,” Kate, 42, wrote via Instagram on Sunday, March 10. “Wishing everyone a Happy Mother’s Day.”

The social media upload featured a new photo of Kate and her three children — Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5 — which husband William, 41, snapped earlier this year. In the pic, Kate wraps her arms around Charlotte and Louis while George stands behind the trio.

The Princess of Wales is dressed casually in a pair of blue jeans and an olive jacket as she sits down in a chair. Eagle-eyed social media users noticed that she’s not wearing her Welsh gold wedding band or the sapphire engagement ring she received in 2010 when William proposed. (While William does not typically wear a wedding ring, Kate has long worn her rings to public events and during family portraits.)

And in the spirit of taking a (royal) trip down memory lane, we stumbled upon the striking pictures taken of Kate Middleton and Prince William on the day they announced their engagement to the world in November 2010.

In case you need a refresher: Clarence House confirmed William and Princess Catherine’s engagement on November 16, 2010. At the time, the royal residence shared in a statement that the couple, who met while attending St. Andrews University in 2001, would get married the following year.

Before they sat down for their first-ever joint interview as a newly engaged couple, Prince William and his soon-to-be wife posed for a series of photos in the State Apartments of St. James Palace.

Why Meghan Markle Hasn’t Been Wearing Engagement Ring From Harry

Meghan Markle was spotted without her engagement ring while attending the Invictus Games with Prince Harry — but there’s a perfectly good explanation.

Meghan, 42, was without the diamond because it’s currently being serviced after the setting came loose, a source tells Us Weekly. The Duchess of Sussex was first seen sans ring when she and Harry, 38, attended the Family & Friends party on Tuesday, September 12. The accessory was missing once again when the pair stepped out for the wheelchair basketball tournament the following day.

Harry designed the ring with Cleave & Company, who also served as the late Queen Elizabeth II’s regular jeweler. Harry told BBC during a post-engagement interview in November 2017 that he used a new rock from Africa — where he and Meghan spent time together early in their relationship — combined with diamonds that his mom, Princess Diana, once wore.

“The ring is yellow gold, because that’s [Meghan’s] favorite, and the main stone itself I sourced from Botswana, and the little diamonds on either side are from my mother’s jewelry collection to make sure that she’s with us on this — on this crazy journey together,” he said.

‘Selfless’ Prince Harry gave Di’s engagement ring to William

Ring-a-bling-bling!

The late Princess Diana’s infamous 12-carat sapphire-and-diamond ring has been a treasured hunk of jewelry in the royal family for decades.

While Prince William, 41, gifted his now-wife Kate Middleton with the glistening rock when they became engaged back in 2010, Prince Harry reportedly also wanted the ring for his future spouse.

The Princess of Wales’ former butler Paul Burrell revealed in the Amazon Prime documentary “The Diana Story” that when she died in 1997, both of her young sons were allowed to pick out something from her sparkling collection to hold onto.

Burrell, 65, claimed that Harry, now 38, got her iconic navy blue engagement ring that she received from King (then Prince) Charles in 1981, while William, 41, desired her Cartier watch.

According to Burrell, the wristwatch was given to Diana on her 21st birthday by her father, John Spencer.

The “Entertaining With Style” author also noted that the Duke of Sussex once said, “I remember when I held mummy’s hand when I was a small boy and that ring always hurt me because it was so big.”

When it was time for the William to propose to Middleton 13 years ago, Harry had allowed his older brother to use their mother’s engagement circlet.

“Harry said to him [William]: ‘Wouldn’t it be fitting if she had mommy’s ring?’ ” Burrell said in the documentary.

“One day that ring will be sat on the throne of England. Harry gave up his precious treasure, his one thing he kept from his mother, he gave to his brother. That’s selfless, kind, and exactly who Diana was,” the

The Princess Diana engagement ring gets a 21st-century revamp

Garrard’s 1735 collection inspired by Princess Diana’s engagement ring, a classic oval sapphire surrounded by a halo of diamonds, has inspired a new collection. Blaze is a riotously coloured, highly textured range of contemporary jewels that plays upon the oval shape and classic colours of emerald, ruby, sapphire and diamond, but that’s where the similarities end.

Where 1735 is safe and elegant, traditional and classic, Blaze is flamboyant, kaleidoscopically coloured and quite unlike anything seen before from this very British house. For Garrard’s creative director, Sara Prentice, to create a modern range inspired by a classic motif would mean flipping the whole idea of an oval surrounded by stones on its head.

GARRARD

“Arguably the most famous engagement ring in history, Diana’s sapphire engagement ring was encircled by a halo of diamonds, set in an 18-carat white gold,” she says. “The 1735 classical cluster motif has been inverted throughout the jewels in the Blaze collection.”

That oval central stone? Gone. In its place is its outline, picked out in tiny diamonds or pink sapphires in the middle of a big cocktail ring, or suggested in part by the curve of a pair of ear climbers in verdant shades of green. And that’s where Blaze really comes to life — through colour.

“The colours of Blaze are an interpretation of the four precious gemstones of the 1735 collection: emerald, sapphire, ruby and diamond. The collection of stones in each Blaze colourway was certainly not by chance,” Prentice explains.

So those four big colourways (in gemstone speak “the big four”) are a riot of shades and cuts. Emerald is represented by deep-green sapphires, leaf-green tourmalines, bright green tsavorites and cool, opaque chrysoprase. Ruby gets the pink treatment with pink sapphires, magenta rubellites

Although the Hollywood starlet had a few dazzling diamonds on her ring finger over the years, it was her 33.19-carat diamond ring given to her by her then-husband Richard Burton that remains the most notable. Bought in 1968, Burton paid $305,000 for the so-called Krupp diamond, which Taylor preferred to wear on her ring finger. Technically, it wasn’t an engagement ring per se, but more of a gift, however, given its extravagance in comparison to her other rings, we couldn’t leave it out. After Taylor’s death in 2011, the diamond was dubbed the Elizabeth Taylor Diamond and sold

Why Princess Catherine is often spotted without her engagement ring

Kate Middleton's engagement ring

Kate Middleton’s engagement ring

Eagle-eyed royal fans have often noticed Princess Catherine stepping out without her precious engagement ring on her finger, but there’s a very practical reason she and many other royals do this.

Kate Middleton’s stunning 12-carat sapphire and diamond engagement ring may be the most famous piece of royal jewelry worn by a member of the family for the past century. The ring was given to Kate by her now-husband Prince William when he proposed back in 2010, but the piece had an incredibly meaningful history before this event.

The engagement ring was originally given to William’s mother, Princess Diana, by his father, King Charles III, when he proposed and upon her death, it passed down to Prince Harry before he gifted it to William. The style now goes by the name ‘Princess Diana’ in an ode to the late Princess of Wales.

With all that family history, as well as the ring symbolizing William and Kate’s eternal bond, it’s a sure fact that the ring is an important piece of jewelry for Kate. But while she regularly steps out in the piece, she will often be spotted without it during royal outings. Royal fans have been quick to point this out in the past, sometimes working themselves into a frenzy of worry over what it could possibly mean But now, ring experts have clarified that the habit is a very practical one and is a great one for others to copy.

There is a clear pattern dictating when Kate will and will not wear her engagement ring.
