BBC Breakfast’s Carol Kirkwood returns to screens following engagement ring speculation

Carol Kirkwood recently bounced back from on-air criticism from one of her colleagues and the good-natured BBC star appeared to be on top form again on Wednesday.

Fans of the Breakfast presenter will no doubt have been glad to see that her glittering engagement ring was clearly visible on her left hand, after being absent last week.

Taking to social media platform X, one commented in response to Carol’s good morning message: “Morning, relieved to see your ring back in place. Thought you had been let down…”

The previous week, another eagle-eyed viewer posted, in response to a BBC weather warning: “The red warning is serious. But not as worrying as Carol Kirkwood not wearing her engagement ring on BBC Breakfast this morning. Hope all is OK?”

Carol is preparing to tie the knot for the second time, having been married to cricketer Jimmy Kirkwood between 1990 and 2008. In May 2022, she announced live on breakfast TV that she was engaged to her fiancé, former police officer Steve Randall.

Earlier this year, the presenter talked about feeling “happy and healthy” and gushed about her “perfect” beau and why they are in no hurry to organise their big day.

Speaking to Closer magazine about her 48-year-old partner, Carol, 61, said: “My fiancé is very handsome. He’s very kind and caring and he makes me laugh. Steve’s a good cook too. He’s all I could ever want. In my eyes he’s perfect.” The BBC star also opened up about how she and Steve got together – revealing that she wasn’t expecting to get into a relationship at the time.

The Big Three Colored Gemstone Engagement Rings

Sapphires, rubies and emeralds will never go out of style. They are the big three gemstones that have long been the gemstones for engagement or betrothal rings, from antiquity to the present day. And while jewelry designers and antique dealers alike are featuring other alternative stones that are awe-inspiring, these three have a place in jewelry’s history—think Queen Victoria, Jackie Kennedy and Duchess of Windsor for emeralds, Mary Pickford, Jean Harlow and Princess Diana for sapphires and Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York and the 19th century inspired ring Earl Charles Spencer proposed to former model Victoria Lockwood in 1989 for rubies.

Here are different time periods and styles of antique and vintage rings from which to choose:

A La Vieille Russie’s Art Deco Sapphire and Diamond Ring, mounted in platinum. English, circa 1925.

Lang Antiques’ no heat Sri Lanka (Ceylon) sapphire ring set in an Art Deco platinum and diamond mounting, circa 1930.

The One I Love NYC ‘s Art Deco natural sugarloaf sapphire surrounded by transitional cut diamonds.

Wartski’s richly colored sugar-loaf Colombian emerald encircled by eighteen brilliant cut diamonds with an openwork platinum gallery and setting, circa 1930.

Humphrey Butler’s Victorian Graduated Emerald and Diamond Five-Stone Carved Half-Hoop Ring with alternately set three square-cut emeralds and two old mine-cut diamonds, mounted in all gold with rose cut small diamond accents.

Berganza’s Colombian emerald and diamond coronet cluster ring with hexagon shaped emerald cut center stone, set with thirty round cut diamonds in open back platinum, circa 1920.

S.J. Phillips’ early 20th-century ruby and diamond ‘eye’ cluster ring, French, circa 1910. It has a central cushion cut Burma ruby.

Officers in Pittsburgh were hot on the trail of a runaway, but they had to improvise in order to save the day.

The caper was an engagement ring that decided to make a break for it through the sewers, but Sergeant Andrew Robinson and Officer Kyle Briggs were not about to be sidestepped so easily.

Out on patrol, the two heard a woman saying she had lost her ring down a sewer as they walked down 16th Street. They decided to stop and help the young woman.

The officers fabricated a device that consisted of a metal pole—found on the street—masking tape and a paperclip attached to the end.

A video, released by the police, shows one of the officers slowly pulling the metal pole and the ring attached to it out of the drain.

“The officers overheard a woman and her fiance’ saying she had lost her ring down a sewer that had a tiny hole in the middle,” said the Pittsburgh Police Bureau in a statement.

“The sergeant who was there said it was a “one in a million shot” that it came off her finger and went into the hole.”

“We don’t know the person’s name. She and her fiance’ were very thankful, jokingly invited them to the wedding, and then drove off in a vehicle with out-of-state plates.”

All in a day’s work for Pittsburgh’s finest.

Jada Pinkett Smith Bought Engagement Ring After Will Smith Proposed

  • Jada Pinkett Smith said that she bought her own engagement ring after Will Smith proposed.
  • Pinkett Smith said that the action gave her some control and was intended to prepare her for marriage.
  • “The ring was a statement that said to my fear: Get used to this now,” she said.

Jada Pinkett Smith said that she bought her own engagement ring after Will Smith proposed to her so she could retain some control and prepare herself for marriage.

“I went to Harry Winston in Beverly Hills and bought my ring, a nice-sized pear-shaped diamond set in a platinum band,” Pinkett Smith wrote in her new memoir, “Worthy,” released on Tuesday. “By buying my own ring, I took some measure of control and sent the message to myself: All right, get with the program.”

“A decade later, Will would completely outdo himself and buy me a 10-carat Graff diamond ring,” she continued. “But in this moment, I had to move quickly to make it all real and concrete for my psyche. The ring was a statement that said to my fear: Get used to this now.”

In “Worthy,” Pinkett Smith detailed her childhood, Hollywood stardom, and relationship with Smith. The pair wed in 1997 and have two children together, son Jaden Smith and daughter Willow Smith, but Pinkett Smith never wanted to be married.

“My trepidation had nothing to do with Will — it had everything to do with my long-held belief that marriage wasn’t for me,” Pinkett Smith wrote, adding that at the time, her mom Adrienne Banfield had two failed marriages.

I Chose My Own Engagement Ring, And It Was The Best Decision Ever

The author with her fiancé, wearing the ring they chose together.

The author with her fiancé, wearing the ring they chose together.

The other day I was in an elevator and a woman pointed at my hand. “That’s a beautiful engagement ring,” she said.

“Thanks,” I replied. “I picked it.”

She smiled and said, “Good for you,” just as the doors opened and she exited the lift.

When I say I chose my ring, I don’t mean that I sent preferences to my sister, who relayed them to my boyfriend, who did his best to find something that fit my style. My boyfriend and I went to a store together and chose something we both liked, which he purchased and kept for a few weeks until he officially proposed.

I imagined that telling people I chose my own engagement ring would go something like the encounter with the stranger in the elevator. I thought everyone would respond with a similar positivity. Many of them did. But peppered in was a different sort of response: looks of ”Oh, that’s interesting” and a quick change of subject. I never experienced outright criticism; it was more a feeling that the person was a bit taken aback, and not in the best way.

I never acknowledged these reactions, not wanting to bring any negativity into my post-engagement love bubble. But months later, after things settled down, those responses stayed with me, less because they bothered me and more because I couldn’t understand them. Were they judging me? And why?

For my then-boyfriend and I, selecting a ring together just made sense. We’d been in a relationship for nearly seven years and living together for four, so there wasn’t a ton of surprise in the fact that we were headed toward marriage.

Then, take into account our personalities. I’m picky and can be very opinionated.

Victoria Beckham has a whopping 15 engagement rings in her collection

Victoria Beckham reportedly has a collection of 15 engagement rings, according to Elle.

Over the course of their 24 years of marriage, her husband – retired football star David Beckham – has gifted her with 15 different engagement rings. Each has a different design and flair, beginning with the simplicity of the very first one, which David reportedly used to propose.

The former Spice Girl has a plethora of different diamonds to choose from, and cycles through them regularly, donning whichever one suits either her outfit or her mood.

In 1998, David proposed to Victoria with a three-carat marquise-cut diamond set on a plain yellow gold band, which at the time was reportedly valued at around $85,000. After their wedding, Victoria transitioned to a platinum-set eternity band, the design featuring a beveled edge as well as white diamonds. She wore it for 18 months and it was the only single band ring she ended up wearing.

Victoria switched things up in 2003 – around the time she and David renewed their vows – and upgraded to a platinum-set, emerald-cut diamond with side baguettes.

To ring in her 30th birthday, David pulled out all the stops and reportedly gifted Victoria a halo-set, pink champagne diamond ring that at the time was valued to be worth $1.1m. The following year, David gave Victoria what is arguably the biggest ring in her collection – a pear-cut 17-carat diamond set on a diamond pave band – and is one of the rings she still keeps in her rotation, as she is regularly photographed with it.

Her next ring was her second foray into colourful diamonds. This time around in 2006, it was an emerald-cut yellow diamond set in a yellow-gold pave band that served to enhance the diamond’s colour. The ring

Heather Dubrow’s Wedding Ring & Engagement Ring: Photo

Both Parts 1 and 2 of The Real Housewives of Orange County Season 17 reunion were filled with fireworks, to say the least, with dramatic rifts between castmates and a few bombshells we definitely weren’t expecting.

Another dramatic part of the reunion? The ladies’ gorgeous, sexy-“chic” styles, including Heather Dubrow’s black cutout Chiara Boni dress she noted to was giving “classic Heather vibes.”

There was another “classic Heather” moment we had to take note of, and yes, it involved diamonds.

Heather Dubrow’s massive diamond engagement ring

On Part 2 of the RHOC Season 17 reunion, Heather’s diamond engagement ring made a jaw-dropping cameo when Tamra Judge asked Gina Kirschenheiter if she and Travis Mullen would ever get married.

“If I get a rock like this,” Gina quipped, pointing to the enormous diamond sparkler on Heather’s finger. Cut to the beautiful piece that definitely puts stars in our eyes.

Even Tamra couldn’t deny being impressed by the ring, telling her fellow ‘Wives, “We all want a rock like that,” which caused Heather to chuckle.

Heather Dubrow’s update on her next house

In addition to showing off her fabulous fashions at the reunion, Heather gave an update on her current living situation.

When host Andy Cohen concluded Part 2 of the reunion by asking the cast members what they were going to miss about the season.

While newcomer Jennifer Pedranti noted, “I’m never gonna have another first experience like this ever again,” Gina stated she was looking forward to moving past some things rather than missing them. Then, after Heather shared her thoughts on “sisterhood,” Gina stepped in with another idea: “I kind of take it back, because I will miss your house,” Gina said to Heather.

To that, Heather declared, “I have news: There’s a better one coming.”
