Eggs were the bizarre trend at New York Fashion Week

An emerging trend is on the horizon, and we really weren’t egg-specting it. (We’re sorry in advance for the egg puns.)

While New York Fashion Week 2023 highlighted so many new trends you can shop now, as well as street style everyone is wearing, it turns out that eggs might be making their way into our wardrobes.

Eggs are a staple in most refrigerators. They’re perfect as a breakfast food, as a baking ingredient… the list goes on and on. One thing, however, we never expected eggs to be was fashionable.

A few months ago, we saw a TikTok on the account @nailedbynika of a nail artist creating a 3D egg on an acrylic nail. It was actually pretty cute, in a surrealist, supermarket fashion kind of way.

This wasn’t a super shocking or questionable design in our opinion, seeing as we’ve seen a myriad of quirky patterns become popular over the last few years – for example, cow print, or even the very controversial emergence of chevron.

Lisa Says Gah!, a popular, ethical fashion brand that sells their products mainly online, also indulges in selling clothes with fun, food-related patterns. They have a popular white t-shirt called their Dana Long Sleeve with a baguette on it, for example –

Where to Eat, Shop, and Play in London During LFW

Although this season’s London Fashion Week is already packed to the gills with shows, events, and watershed moments—celebrating the life of Dame Vivienne Westwood, to whom the five-day event has been dedicated; Daniel Lee’s first fashion show at Burberry; Florence Pugh making her runway debut—there will surely be moments of much-needed downtime for the editors, celebs, and fashion enthusiasts roaming the English city’s streets. Plenty of stylish folks will surely hit up London’s noted hot spots (photo shoot in the bathroom at Sketch, anyone?) through February 21. But where are the if-you-know-you-know bars, restaurants, shops, galleries, and cafés among such classics as the Tate and the original Dover Street Market? Below, you’ll find a list of W’s favorite places to check out during a stay in LDN, from an Indian-fusion restaurant in Brixton to vintage shopping on Portobello Road.

Where to Eat

Rita’s

49 Lexington Street, Carnaby, London W1F 9AP

An intimate choice for dinner (or a drink) in Soho, Rita’s serves modern American food in a wholly British setting. Book a window seat and enjoy the people watching.

With its nine-course tasting menu, Kol offers “Mexican soul, British ingredients”—think langoustine tacos or chicharron with pumpkin. The downstairs Mezcaleria in this Marylebone establishment is perfect for a cocktail before or after dinner.

Rochelle Canteen

16 Playground Gardens, London E2 7FA

Great for a quick working lunch, Rochelle Canteen offers seasonal dining, feels classic, and strikes a nice balance between local and elevated cuisines.

The River Café

Thames Wharf, Rainville Road, London W6 9HA

A classic favorite within a unique space, chef Ruth Rogers’s River Café is always a good choice. Save room for the lemon tart—you won’t be disappointed.

These Are The Street Style Trends We Spotted At London Fashion Week AW23

While the runways of London Fashion Week AW23 predict the trends of the future (drop-waist everything, we see you), it’s on the backs of editors, buyers and influencers sitting front row where the trends of now are really taking shape.

Thankfully, we had Darrel Hunter of Modehunter out on the streets of London capturing the parade of looks on show-attendees, so we know what pieces were popular with London’s tastemakers. Leather bomber jackets, back-to-school-style skirts, XL trouser cuffs and Tabi shoes were the true stand-out street style stars this season, let’s take a look where to shop and how to style them now.

Leather Bomber Jackets

While motocross jackets were still absolutely everywhere this season, leather bomber jackets are set to take over next. Pulled in as the waist, with a generous puff, they are as comfy as they are cool.

The hero of the trend has to be Loewe’s padded leather bomber, worn above with silky trousers, a Dior saddle bag and stiletto heels. This is a great trend to try out by looking for a vintage option, and can be dressed down with denim, or a midi skirt.

Back-To-School Skirts

We saw pleated skirts, that look straight from the school gates, all over the runway and front row at fashion week. Often midi in length and in a dark grey, Miu Miu’s version is at the top of our wish list.

Making sure the school look is well and truly communicated, we’re pairing this skirt with white socks, loafers and a pullover. Pigtails are optional.

XL Trouser Cuffs

Milan Fashion Week: Prada blooms, Emporio Armani shimmers

Florals bloomed on skirts, shoes and from the ceiling at Italian designer label Prada’s Milan Fashion Week show on Thursday (Feb 23)

Designers Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons turned wedding dresses into everyday looks, opening their autumn/winter 2023-24 catwalk presentation with a range of long and short white skirts embellished with white flowers and paired with knits.

Utility suits became long shirt dresses with trains, while large boxy jackets were matched with slim ankle-length trousers in mainly dark shades.

Models wore shirts with stick-out shoulders, knits and jackets with colourful inside collars, and pastel-coloured cigarette trousers paired with ribbed tops.

Kitten heels in a range of colours bore cut-out floral patterns.

The collection also featured white puffer and dark asymmetrical mini skirts, colourful printed dresses, buttoned capes and duffel coats.

Last month, the Hong Kong-listed fashion group said it had appointed a new chief executive, Andrea Guerra, taking the place of Patrizio Bertelli and Miuccia Prada and easing a transition to the next generation of the founding family.

At Emporio Armani, models walked on a round catwalk to present the latest collection of veteran designer Giorgio Armani’s second line.

The 88-year-old designer, affectionately called “King Giorgio” in his native Italy, presented a sleek offering with plenty of black that was brightened with pinks, reds and purples.

Jackets had asymmetric buttons, velvet trouser suits were loose and comfy, while black and lilac evening looks shimmered with sequins.

“It is a collection under the sign of discretion even in displaying a slightly eccentric fashion,” Armani told reporters.

He will present his latest collection for his main Giorgio Armani line on Sunday.

Milan Fashion Week is the third leg of the month-long catwalk calendar, during which designers present their autumn/winter 2023-24 collections.

Lisa Rinna, 59, slays in barely there corset outfit and thigh-high stockings as she attends London Fashion Week

Lisa Rinna is living her best life out there absolutely slaying yet another fashion week

This time she’s all decked out for London Fashion Week in an age-defying look.

The former Real Housewife of Beverly Hills, 59, shared three snaps of her rocking the Girls Don’t Cry suit from designer Dilara.

The beige jacket has puffy sleeves. She wore it over a sheer white top with corset lacing through her torso. The bell-shaped cuffs peek out from the ends of the jacket’s sleeves.

Lisa – who rocked an edgy look last week at New York Fashion Week – completed the look with sheer, white, thigh-high stockings and white shoes.

Her spiky hair was styled in a punk rock manner and her makeup complemented the earth tones of her outfit.

This latest stylist look comes the day after she absolutely worked the red carpet at the BAFTAs on Sunday.

The reality television star wore a lacy black slip dress with a low neckline, and black leather knee-high boots.

The mother-of-two teamed her outfit with a black blazer hanging from her shoulders and sported her signature spiky bob hairstyle.

Her daughter Amelia Gray Hamlin, 21, walked the red carpet alongside her stunning mother wearing an avant-garde corset dress of black leather.

At another London Fashion Week event, the Melrose Place actress flashed her midriff as she went braless in a sheer sequin top. The beauty paired her top with gold sequined bootcut pants

At London Fashion Week, designers refocus on good clothes

Daniel Lee’s Burberry debut swept through London Fashion Week like a breath of fresh air. The city is in need of a pick-me-up in the aftermath of Brexit, Covid and Liz Truss’s disastrous “mini” Budget — not to mention the ongoing public-sector strikes over pay.

Editors and buyers who usually skip London and head straight to Fashion Week in Milan appeared south of the Thames on Monday night, in London’s Kennington Park, to see whether Lee could restore the magic at Britain’s biggest and best-known luxury goods brand — and help the company achieve its goal of increasing revenues from £2.8bn to £4bn within five years.

It might not have been magic, exactly, but Lee did succeed in making Burberry worth watching again. He has been tasked by chief executive Jonathan Akeroyd, who joined Burberry from Versace last year, with emphasising Burberry’s “Britishness” as it seeks to recapture market share from European rivals such as Gucci, Prada and Moncler.

Lee did it not with the Mayfair-meets-Bloomsbury Englishness of former designer Christopher Bailey, who sat front row, but with enormous faux furs, clashing Burberry plaids and frayed kilts-over-trousers that evoked the look and spirit of early Vivienne Westwood and ’90s grunge. The decision to pitch a tent in Kennington, an area once known for its squatters, instead of returning to Bailey’s grand, orangery-style showspace in Hyde Park, spoke volumes.

1. Bold, monochromatic suits at Cynthia Rowley, Gabriela Hearst

Monochromatic suits were shown on runways at Cynthia Rowley and Gabriela Hearst.

Matching sets have been on trend for the last few seasons, but this fall, designers turned to monochromatic suiting to make bold statements out of traditional styles. Instead of a traditional NYFW runway presentation, Cynthia Rowley opted to host a comedy show featuring the talents of stars like Ego Nwodim, Nikki Glaser and Esther Ku, entertaining audiences in monochromatic looks that took our breath away. At Gabriela Hearst, a lemon-yellow men’s suit was a brilliant, striking contrast to the neutrals that were shown elsewhere.

Want to hop on the trend ahead of next fall? Get the look with Bardot’s Parisienne Blazer. Available in a trendy Barbiecore-friendly shade of pink, in women’s sizes 2 to 8, this double-breasted suit is modern, bold and vibrant. Don’t forget to snag the matching Therese Buckle Pant to complete the look.

2. Clever sequins and metallic fabrics at Badgley Mischka, Pamella Roland

Be prepared to shine this fall. Metallic textiles and sequins were all the rage at Badgley Mischka and Pamella Roland.

Ukrainian designers ‘escape reality’ at London Fashion Week

LONDON : Unable to show in their war-torn homeland, three Ukrainian fashion designers hit the runway at London Fashion Week on Tuesday, delighted to showcase some colour and joy.

In the first of back-to-back shows, fashion house KSENIASCHNAIDER mixed denim jeans and dresses with white tops and multicoloured patchwork outfits in an eco-friendly collection.

“Circumstances are so unusual,” designer Ksenia Schnaider told Reuters. “I just want to escape the reality … I just want to bring joy and something beautiful.”

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine almost a year ago, Schnaider said running the brand she shares with her husband Anton has been tough.

“When we were working on this collection … there were constant blackouts, so we had to buy a huge generator and control the timing of using electricity so it was really tense,” she said.

‘EXTRAORDINARY AND POWERFUL’

Also taking to the catwalk was PASKAL, with a range that included delicate dresses in blue, black and white with cutout butterfly shapes and attachments.

“We represented our country in London and it was extraordinary and powerful,” designer Julie Paskal said.

The other brand on the lineup, one worn by the likes of singers Dua Lipa and Gwen Stefani, was FROLOV.

Designer Ivan Frolov said he was inspired by Ukrainian songs for this collection which featured corset dresses in colours like pink, red and black, with heart shapes cut from them as well as hand-knit sweaters.

“I just want to say how we appreciate London Fashion Week and The British Fashion Council,” he added, saying the support was vital to keep their businesses going.

At the end of the show the designers appeared together with a Ukrainian flag with the UNITED24 logo, the fundraising platform created by President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

Keen to make sure their talent is seen, Ukrainian designers

Cosmopolitan NYFW stylist duo ‘Slays’ their debut fashion show

New York Fashion Week (NYFW) is one of the four major fashion weeks in the world, alongside Paris, Milan, and London. This series is fashion’s biggest stage, yet not all fashionably talented designers and stylists have their fair chance to shine at the main shows.

Cosmopolitan New York Fashion Week (NYFW) held its first fashion show on Sunday, Feb. 12, at Stepping Out Studios Penthouse in midtown Manhattan during New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2023. Cosmopolitan NYFW showcased talented and innovative designers, including various nail/hair/makeup artists.

Fashion stylists Monique Obeze and Crystal Owens, friends and business partners for more than seven years, are the founders of Cosmopolitan NYFW. “I had a dream when we first started talking about this [five months ago],” said Owens. “I told Monique this show is going to be packed out; it happened…we did it.”

They combined their companies and created Cosmopolitan NYFW last September. Their many years in the fashion world influenced and encouraged them to create their own fashion show separate from the main New York fashion week shows.

About 300 people were in attendance at the sold-out show, which exceeded their expectations.

“We did this on a wing and a prayer,” said Obeze. The stylist duo shared their expertise, knowledge, and perspectives they’ve acquired over the years to fuel their fashion creativity.

Owens was a stylist at numerous fashion shows and envisioned doing things differently at her own show. She expressed her dislike of how her partner, Obeze, was treated during other fashion shows. “I had just produced another person’s show for Fashion Week and there were things Crystal didn’t appreciate that happened to me

Fendi designer pays tribute to female-led fashion powerhouse | Milan fashion week

Male designers and their supersized egos have dictated what women wear for most of the past century. But it is the female side of the Fendi family who have been in the driving seat throughout the 98-year-old history of their Italian luxury house, and the British designer Kim Jones is smart enough to realise that Fendi is not about him.

“Fendi is a female-led, multigenerational house, and that is what I love about it,” said Jones backstage before the catwalk show, which opened Milan fashion week on Wednesday.

Silvia Venturini Fendi, whose grandparents Adele and Eduardo founded the house, now designs menswear and accessories; her daughter Delfina does the jewellery. “So with Silvia, Silvia’s mother, Delfina, and Delfina’s daughter, who is nearly 16, I have the point of view of many women.”

The Fendi women are a tribe of “sophisticated working mothers who also enjoy having a good time”, said Jones. “They are a really fun family. They are women who like to do stuff. Women who are always evolving, who are interested in what’s new.”

This season, Jones zeroed in on 36-year-old Delfina Delettrez Fendi, and her specific gift for making archive Fendi pieces look modern. “The first day she walked into work she was wearing blue and brown, and I thought she looked so great. There’s a chicness but a perversity to the way she twists Fendi, which is what I love.”

The result was a sophisticated, covered-up wardrobe very different from the pastel-toned, crop-topped Y2K stylings that dominated the previous Milan fashion week. Silhouettes were soft, with slinky knit dresses that warped gently around the body, shirt buttons undone, skirts with rippling pleats. Coats were the colour of milky coffee, tailoring a Brutalist cement grey. A few pieces
