The 50-year-old revealed insights from her mother and dermatologist Doris Day, M.D.
“Nothing looks better in your 50s than sunscreen in your 20s,” Garner says.
Jennifer Garner’s skincare routine never fails to impress. Whether stunning during her latest red carpet appearance or annihilating a box jump workout on Instagram, the star glows from the inside out. While she’s long been open about her must-have beauty products, now she’s sharing the best skincare advice she’s ever received—and the insights do not disappoint.
The 50-year-old knows how to take care of her mind and body, and thankfully for us, she’s down to spread the word on how she achieves such glowing results. She’s touted the best eye cream for plump skin, her favorite moisturizer, and so much more. Now, the star tells Prevention two pieces of skincare advice that are total game changers.
“Nothing looks better in your 50s than sunscreen in your 20s,” she says. Doris Day, M.D., offered up the one-liner while she and Garner were doing an event with Neutrogena, and the phrase resonated with her. “It is the truest thing ever spoken. I did use sunscreen early on and I stayed out of the sun when I was young because I was always in the theater.”
But, that’s not her only advice. Garner’s relationship with her mother always warms our hearts, and the Adam Project star says that her mother gave her some advice growing up that she carries with her today. “If you know my mom you’d know she is not a skincare maven by any stretch—but she did tell me really early on that your face goes all the way to [your chest],” Garner says. “So buy skincare products that you’re not afraid to lavish.”
But what does that mean, exactly? Garner says that she interprets the advice as: “Don’t get something so fancy that you’re just barely dabbing [it on]. You want to feel the moistness on your skin all the time. So whatever products I am putting on during the day I put it all down my neck and decolletage. So the same retinol pro+ that I’m doing on my face and my neck and my decolletage.”
She also says that she swears by sunscreen year-round (which dermatologists recommend as well!).
As far as products are concerned, she’s truly mastered her routine, alternating between the best retinol and the best hydrating serums (the Neutrogena ambassador swears by the brand for both types of products).
