This TikToker Shamed The Telfar Bag After Beyonce’s Shout Out

A TikToker is big mad over Beyoncé’s lyric about her Hermes Birkin bags being in storage. On the track “Summer Renaissance” on her Renaissance album, she sang “This Telfar bag imported/ Birkins, them s**** in storage.”

This is Beyoncé giving Telfar Clemens’ brand the acknowledgement it deserves as a prominent and highly successful Black-owned business. A Tik Tok user who goes by “EricasGirlyWorld” was perturbed by the boost Bey gave the Telfar brand.

In a nearly three-minute TikTok video, she said the Hermes Birkin bag is far from out of style.

“It’s such misinformation. If you look at Hermes’ financial data the revenue in 2021 was 42% or higher than in 2020,” she said. “That is massive growth.”

She added that “long gone is the time that celebrities were the say all end all be all of all things.” If celebrities aren’t trendsetters, then how did the Birkin become so popular? But I digress.

“There is no absolute voice in terms of what is right or wrong for people to wear. That’s an individual decision,” she continued.”

Erica also downplayed the Telfar bag and said it isn’t luxury, is made of “pleather” and is overall not good for the environment.

“Comparing a Telfar bag to a Birkin is like comparing a mid-range reformation dress to a Dior haute couture gown. It is not even in the same stratosphere. The consumer for Telfar is completely different than the consumer for Birkins. They are looking for completely different things in a completely different price range.”

She added that Birkin buyers are “looking at the fact that the item is going to last the lifetime. It’s going to wear well but not like pleather that’s going to crack in a few years.”

That’s exactly why the internet was aflutter this week after Kate Middleton stepped out at the Commonwealth Games with hubby Prince William and Princess Charlotte, too. Sure, she was dressed to the nines in a white Alexander McQueen suit, but her ring finger was noticeably less blingy, adorned with only her gold wedding band vs. the sapphire and diamond sparkler that once belonged to Princess Diana and was passed down to her upon her engagement to William in 2010.

So, where was the ring? My co-host Roberta Fiorito and I discuss a zillion reasons for its absence on this week’s episode of the Royally Obsessed podcast (listen to it here!). No, it has nothing to do with marital troubles. Our main take: It was likely getting cleaned or had a stone in need of repair. But also, Kate has only been pictured without it a handful of times (for example, on this engagement-ring-during-todays-hospital-visit/” data-ylk=”slk:hospital visit in 2020″ class=”link “hospital visit in 2020 and again in 2018), which is why it always makes headlines when she’s pictured without it on.

This Oak Cliff Salon Wants Latina Beauty Professionals to Blossom and Thrive

Victoria Leiato’s life changed when her mother went to beauty school. She was 6 when her parents divorced, and she and her two sisters lived with their now-single mother in El Paso. The family was surviving off food stamps and staying in government housing when her mother, an immigrant from Mexico, decided to become an esthetician.

“We were in a rough place,” says Leiato, who opened her own salon, The Bloom Space, last May in Oak Cliff. But “within two-to-three years that she was in beauty school, she was able pull us out of financial turmoil.”

Her mom got a job at an El Paso salon. It was like that scene in In the Heights, “but “a little less gossipy.” It felt like family there, and Leiato’s mom, who’s been working at the same salon for nearly 20 years, was able to establish a client base. They got off food stamps. Leiato and her sisters were able to attend college with little-to-no debt.

“I saw how our family could have upward mobility through my mom’s income through the beauty industry,” Leiato says. She never forgot that lesson.

Leiato graduated from University of Texas at El Paso in 2017 with degrees in organizational communications and linguistics. She and her husband, Michael, moved to Dallas, and Leiato began working for companies like Apple and Target. But, by the time she was furloughed and eventually let go from her job in the early days of the pandemic, she was burned out from the corporate world.

Leiato wanted her salon to feel warm and welcoming, so she decorated the space with pink and gold hues inspired by Mexico City.

This Popular Grocery Chain Is Closing Stores, Starting Aug. 13

If you haven’t been impacted by the recent retail apocalypse, consider yourself lucky. Over the last few years, companies have been hit hard by a number of challenges: the COVID pandemic, supply chain issues, labor shortages, and rising inflation. As a result, even some of the most established retailers like Walmart and CVS have had to close locations around the U.S. And now, a popular grocery store chain is gearing up to shutter some of its stores nationwide. Read on to find out which grocer is closing locations starting next month.

Several grocery chains have already closed stores this year.

Grocery stores have not been spared by the challenges across the retail space. Back in May, six Whole Foods Market stores across the U.S. were closed by Amazon, which had purchased the upscale supermarket chain in 2017. The company told Bloomberg that the closures were part of a regular performance and growth potential evaluation of individual stores in order “to position Whole Foods Market for long-term success.” Shortly after that, three Sprouts Farmers Market locations were shuttered in June.

And earlier this month, Lidl confirmed it would soon be closing several “underperforming” locations, starting July 31. As it turns out, the grocery chain closures are far from over.

Now another grocer is getting ready to shutter locations.

Kroger, a Cincinnati-based grocery company that operates stores throughout the U.S., will be closing at least two locations in the coming weeks.

A Kroger in Little Rock, Arkansas, is one of the locations being shuttered, local Fox-affiliate KLRT recently reported on July 25. The other store is a Kroger in Plano, Texas, according to Community Impact, a chain of monthly newspapers servicing cities
